Frequently Asked Questions

  • Let everything cool completely first. Soak the pot in warm, soapy water to loosen cheese or chocolate, then wash with a soft sponge. Your manual says which parts are dishwasher safe.
  • Fill the pot no more than halfway, or to the level your manual recommends. Pat food dry before dipping to avoid spatter, and keep the pot steady and out of children's reach.
  • Melt chocolate gently over low heat with a bit of cream. Keep water and steam away from it, since even a few drops can make chocolate seize.
  • Toss grated cheese with a little cornstarch, then add it a handful at a time to warm wine or broth, stirring in a figure-eight. Keep the heat low. High heat makes cheese stringy or grainy.
  • Follow the heat settings and fill levels in your manual. Cheese and chocolate need gentle heat, while oil and broth need more.
